Adam Biles is the author of GREY CATS, which was runner-up in the inaugural Paris Literary Prize in 2011 and is published by 3:AM Press. In May 2012, his ficto-essay THE DEEP was published in a bilingual edition by Editions de la Houle. When I first moved to Paris, all I noticed was what was different. Years later, I realized that stereotypes that surrounded the French hid a people that was actually much more like what I knew from home than I had thought. A student of 19^th century French and American literature, I’m fascinated by the parallels that can be drawn between the realist novels of these two newly born post-revolutionary free worlds and, perhaps even more so, the ways in which they reflect the values that are held, even today.
