A survey by OpinionWay entitled "Les Français et l'enseignement" carried out between July 21 and 23, 2010 found that, in a major shift, most French are now ready to consider private schooling for their children:
- 65% are ready to shift from public to private (and to pay for schooling)
- 85% trust private school more than public school
- 56% accuse school to be responsible for children's failure
- but 97%, that is, nearly every one questioned, defend the availability of free public schooling for all as a basic tenant of the French Republic
Clearly, something is wrong in the French education system and it is not getting better yet.
